What is Lent?
Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, a time of self-examination, fasting, and penance to prepare us for the joyful celebration of Easter. “By the solemn forty days of Lent the Church unites herself each year to the mystery of Jesus in the desert” (Catechism of the Catholic Church #540).

Lent is marked by three things: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. By offering up small sacrifices through the season, we unite ourselves to Christ's sacrifice on the cross for our sins.

Ash Wednesday Masses
Ash Wednesday Mass and distribution of ashes will be celebrated at the following times:

-
8:00 am
-
9:00 am (school Mass)

Our Lenten Prayer Initiative
This Lent, we invite you to embark on a Journey of Hope, inspired by the Jubilee Year 2025 and Pope Francis' call for us to be "pilgrims of hope." As we prepare our hearts for Easter, we reflect on God’s endless mercy and the promise of renewal.

Lent is a time of prayer, sacrifice, and deepening faith—a journey that leads us closer to Christ. Through this theme, we embrace hope as our guide, trusting in God’s love to transform our lives and the world around us. Join us as we walk together in faith, strengthened by the hope that never fades.
Archbishop Miller's Pastoral Letter on the Jubilee of Hope inspires us by offering 5 ways of living the Jubilee:

1. Welcome Christ into Your Heart
2. Sow Hope
3. Go on a Pilgrimage
4. Receive the Jubilee Indulgence
5. Imitate the Jubilee Saints

Please note: This year we will not be collecting clothing, only food and staples from the ‘Most Needed’ list that has been provided to us by Harvest Project. Be sure to take a copy of the list as you leave Mass.

This Lent, Christ the Redeemer Parish and St. Thomas Aquinas High School Campus Ministry are partnering together to collect food for the North Vancouver charity, Harvest Project to help them continue to lift up our neighbors who are marginalized by extreme life challenges. Harvest Project helps to restore each person to a healthier life by providing counsel, North Shore Rent Bank, grocery, nutrition and clothing supports.
All donations can be dropped off in the church foyer inside boxes marked Harvest Project, from March 9 through April 6.

To support the Harvest Project effectively, we kindly ask that only the specific items listed be dropped off at the parish. The Harvest Project is only able to accept these designated items and is unable to collect any other food donations at this time.

Why Harvest Project?

-
Recent surveys show thousands of North Shore residents are forced to spend more than 60% of family income on accommodation.
-
Parents are quite often forced to choose between staying housed or providing food for their family.
-
Each month, HP supports 1,000+ individuals by providing:
-
One-on-one client care coaching
-
Grocery support programs
-
A Rent Bank
-
Emergency Food program
-
Clothing Support program
-
Clothes for Change thrift store
-
-
By working with each client and family individually, Harvest Project ensures that each person is seen, heard and understood as they encourage and empower them to work towards a more positive future.
-
The majority of donations received by HP are within the last six months of the year which requires them to stretch out their resources over the first six months.
-
The Christian Connection. HP was formed in 1993 when successful West Vancouver businessman, David Foster, found himself homeless, collecting welfare and accessing local food banks. Through help from local churches and other local charities, David began to embrace the Christian faith and was inspired to begin Harvest Project as an expression of solidarity with those experiencing poverty.

For Families

Children's Liturgy of the Word
On March 9 and April 6 at the 11:00 am Mass, we will celebrate Liturgy of the Word for Children in the McCarthy Room for children aged 3 to 7. Parents are welcome and encouraged to accompany their children, especially if they sense their child would require their support to participate well. Our approach to celebrating with children is informed by the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a method inspired by the principles of Montessori education.
What is Liturgy of the Word with Children?
Liturgy of the Word with Children, also referred to as Children’s Liturgy or LWC, is a celebration of the Liturgy of the Word in a manner best suited to the needs and experiences of young children. It includes the same elements of the Liturgy of the Word celebrated at every Mass: Scripture readings, a reflection, the Creed, and prayers of the faithful. Children are dismissed to a beautiful, prayerful, child-friendly, space outside of the church after the Opening Prayer, and return to their pews during the Offertory Hymn.
